Source documents are what separate content that states a specification from content that can show where the specification came from.
The Document Lifecycle
Upload
The document is stored in your organization's evidence library. It is not shared with, or visible to, any other organization.
Extract
Text is extracted so the document's contents become searchable and citable rather than an opaque file.
Link
The document is associated with the products it covers. One document can support many products at once. A family brochure often covers a dozen model variants.
Cite
Passages from the document become the evidence behind specific statements in generated content.
Which Documents Help Most
| Document type | Usefulness | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Family or range brochure | Highest | Covers many models with comparable specification tables. |
| Specification sheet | High | Dense, structured, written to be quoted. |
| Instructions for use | Medium | Authoritative; strong on requirements and compatibility. |
| Service manual | Medium | Deep technical detail, often revision-specific. |
| Reseller summary | Low | Convenient but frequently contains transcription errors. |
Check Field-Service Documents Before Uploading
Revisions Matter
Manufacturers revise specifications. Recording the document date and revision at upload takes seconds and is often the only way to explain, later, why a published figure differed from the current datasheet.
