The Sequence
From Connected Store to Draft Listing
Six steps. Two of them are decisions you make, and the last one happens in Shopify rather than in GearDock.
Authorize the Store
Connect through Shopify's standard OAuth flow. GearDock receives the permissions it needs and nothing more, and the credentials are stored as protected references rather than being displayed back to you.
Discover What Is Already There
GearDock reads the existing products in the connected store, including across paginated catalogs, so publishing can update an existing listing rather than creating a duplicate.
Complete and Approve Content in GearDock
Products go through the normal workflow first: matching, evidence, completion, drafting, review, and approval. Connecting Shopify does not skip any of it.
Release the Content
Release is the separate decision that makes approved content eligible to leave GearDock. Content that is approved but not released cannot be published.
Publish as a Draft Product
GearDock creates or updates the product in Shopify in DRAFT state, and records what was sent, when, and by whom.
Go Live Yourself
You review the draft in Shopify and make it live when you are satisfied. GearDock does not set products live.

What This Connection Does Not Do
Stated plainly, so there is no gap between what you expect and what happens.
- Writes are DRAFT only. There is no live-publication or remote-delete path.
- Public production activation is off until a separately approved customer configuration is qualified.
- It does not read edits made in Shopify back into GearDock.
- It does not manage inventory, pricing rules, orders, or fulfillment.

Every Delivery Leaves a Record
Sending to Shopify is an export, so it carries the same record as any other export.

Shopify Questions
Does GearDock make my products live on Shopify?
No. GearDock publishes to Shopify as DRAFT products. Making a listing live is an action you take in Shopify, which keeps a final human checkpoint between GearDock and your storefront.
Will it create duplicates of products I already have?
Product discovery reads your existing catalog first, including across paginated results, so publishing can update a matching product rather than creating a second one.
What if I edit the product in Shopify afterwards?
Those edits live in Shopify. GearDock records what it sent and when, but it does not read your storefront changes back into the product record.
Can approved-but-unreleased content reach Shopify?
No. Only released content is eligible, and the release state is checked again at the moment the export runs, so a decision you reverse after a job was queued cannot still go through.
How are the store credentials stored?
As protected references. They are not displayed after authorization, and they are scoped to your organization like everything else in GearDock.
